Consumption of alcohol is forbidden in the islamic faith so yes it is fobidden in an islamic state like saudi arabia. of course as in any society there are those who will violate the law. Seriously doubt about moonshine. Probably easier to drink smuggled liquor. Punishement if caught is severe too like public lashing or caning from what i've been told.

It has nothing to do with having fun or not (after all you can have fun without alcohol). It's because of their religious beliefs.

Saudi Arabia is a fundamentalist Muslim country in which Islamic law is strictly enforced. So, under Sharia, no alcohol, pork products or religious books and artefacts not related to Islam are allowed in the country.

There are no bars in Saudi Arabia, and alcohol is served nowhere to anyone of any religious persuasion (ex pats can get a drink and its overlooked in these quarters)

The punishment for drinking alcohol is a public lashing.

A few Saudi Arabian Muslims often go to Bahrain so that they can drink throughout the year.

Some more on it at the good ol BBC

It is a dry country cause of their religious beliefs. And you can have fun without alchol, they are brought up like that. Women in their country can't wear mini-skirts, spaghetti tops and stuff. They have to wear burkhas. Dosen't really mean they don't have fun. Try using your brain a little more. -_-
Even Bahrain dosen't have alcohol now, I just visited Bahrain this year. It's not funny.

no, it isnt, if you consider that people of international origin live and work there..it is only tolerated in that section, not in public places frequented by muslims

Bahrain does allow alcohol. I know some people stationed there

It's illegal to drink in public. I've been told that many people in the KSA have a bottle of Johnny Walker hidden away for special occasions.

No alcohol is allowed in Saudi arabia although some expat private communities are over looked if they keep their decency.

Some people manufacture local drinks there and sells it but it is still illigal and punished harshly.

Saudi's who drink can travel abroad. Most Saudi's still prefer not having alcohol served in their country and they do have fun without it
