merlot!

they list the best wines of 2007 by price groups!

I would say either Boones Farm or MD20/20 (maddog). It depends on what you are eating with it too (steak, big mac, leftovers from the dumpster, etc.)

Boone's farm and wild English rose is always highly rated as the best on the market...oh, i almost forgot, so is pink champale...a very good choice for the choosy wine connesoir.

The one that you think taste the best regardless of price.

my personal favorites are :

An Australian wine, Banrock station Chardonnay
and pretty much any Pinot Grigio

It's hard to pinpoint what is the best wine on the market is, being that wine tasting and marketablity is very objective.

go to www.winespectator.com - you'll find the top rated wines of the year.

The market is constantly changing though considering the quality of different vintages change year to year depending on climate and product yields.

As far as TRENDS go, the central/south american wines have been growing in popularity and quality for the past 15 years. They were once thought to be poor quality, but most of the vines planted in that region were originally transplanted from France by the Rothschild Family and other French Chateaus. They produce some wonderful Cabs, Malbecs, - Sauv Blanc and Chardonnays are really taking off in that region as well (Casa Lapostolle - the family that originally made Grand Marnier)

In more recent times, wine drinkers have been returning to the original novelty of French Reds and the German Whites. These are a standby - and nothing to thumb your nose at. They've been doing it the right way since the vines were planted by the Roman Empire -- they know what they're doing.

The quality of California Reds has been steadily increasing over the past 20 years as well. Pinot Noir, Big Cabs from Napa, Meritages, you name it.

There are certain names that will always jump out.
Opus One - Mondavi and Rothschild
Chateaux Margaux
Chateaux Rothschild (mouton and Lefitte)
Hess
Krug
Taittinger
Chateaux Pichon
Banfi
St Supery
Jabolet
Penfolds
Quintessa
Brunello
Bertani

It all depends on your taste.

Mad dog

I'm partial to that cheap rot-gut they served at the topless bar
