Why does everyone say eat if your drunk or drink coffee?!

Question: I have been through multiple classes for drinknig and rehab. All i have heard is that food soaks up the alcohol in your stomach it still there for your body to ingest. As the food soaked with alcohol passes through system it is absorbed into your body. that is where a lot of hangovers come from; fod from the night before. Coffee is just a pick me up to try and speed the process up. I no longer drink just wanting answers for verification.

It's an urban myth. Alcohol cannot be 'absorbed' by food or caffeine. While it's true that eating can slow down the effects of alcohol BEFORE you drink, it's completely ineffective if you're already drunk. When you're intoxicated, the only thing you can do is wait for your body to metabolize the alcohol. But make sure to drink as much water as you can hold, as it will lessen the hangover.

The food does absorb the alcholol in a sense. Basically eating something or drinking coffee will begin to bring your buzz down. It has alot to do with certain chemical reactions in the body.

Personal experience.
Drinking coffee while drunk, simply makes you a wide awake drunk!

because the food will absorb the alcohol and make it a bit easier on your liver, orange juice will also help sober you up quicker as it speeds up the liver so make it the last thing u drink before you go to bed and theres less chance of a hangover, as for coffee i dont know

All I know is that if I don't eat something substantial before, after or while I'm out drinking, I will definitely be puking the next morning. Food has always prevented me from having a hangover.

Because you're a stubborn drunkard - stop and they'll stop repeating always the same things

it delays the body's absorbing the alcohol. So you get less of a spike where a lot of alcohol enters your blood stream and instead it is slowly released over time. If you drink alcohol on an empty stpmuch it goes right to head.

Why eat or drink coffee when you are drunk? That works against your goal of being drunk. I say drink some more of whatever it was you were drinking and stay drunk. Good times!!!
