Is it a fact that coloured spirits eg.whisky/brandy have more calories than clear spirits eg.vodka/gin.?!

Question: Scotch whiskey, 64 calories per ounce.
Bourbon whiskey, 67 calories per ounce.
Vodka, 64 calories per ounce.
Gin, 64 calories per ounce.

So, no, it's not true. Consider the higher calories myth linked to the preferred mixers. Dark spirits tend to fare best with either flavorless mixers like water or soda, or sweet mixers containing sugar and with a sweetened cherry in the glass. Colorless spirits tend to be mixed with tart mixers containing less sugar and "trimmed" with citrus or other natural, unsweetened fruit.

does it matter?

if your going out to get hammered go out and get hammered dont worry about calories!

lets just say, neither? drinking is bad =O

i think that's correct - maybe they add sugars to colour it - weird.

no, the color comes from ageing in oak barrels, homemade whiskey is clear

Alcohol in and of itself does not neccesarilly have a lot of calories but does contain loads of carbs and sometimes sugars depending on what you mix the hard stuff with.
If you're on a diet or watching your weight, alcohol in general other than one drink is not good and should be avoided all together.

It does not matter because calories from alcohol do not cumulate and just burn down. To your question: calory content of strong alcoholic beverages depends in fact only on alcohol percentage (not on colour etc). Whisky can indeed have a little more calories than vodka (by the same strength) because of carbohydrates but difference is negligible. In beer or wine additional calories come from sugar and other carbohydrates.

No, virtually the same.

Not so far as I know, but I think you my be getting your calories mixed up with your congenerics. These are impurities (if you like!) generated by distillation and worsen the effect of alcohol.

They are present in badly produced stuff & purportedly in coloured spirits. Trouble is whisky is clear out of the still as is rum; both are artificially coloured.

So judge for yourself...

No, all spirits has 50 calories in a 25ml pub measure
