I haven't had a drink of alcohol in 9 months. After 1 year, would you drink again (moderately)?!

Question: I stopped drinking alcohol in Febuary and I intended on not drinking any alcohol for a whole year. I'd usually drink liquor and no beer. I used to drink excessively but I never considered myself to be an alcoholic because I didn't need alcohol every day.

I could go days with no alcohol, but when I did drink I'd drink plenty and get very drunk. When I decided to stop, I still had an unfinished bottle of E&J liquor and I had no urges to drink it. I actually had the bottle next to my bed, and I went to sleep every night for weeks without toaching the bottle. Then I dumped the liquor out.

Question: After one year of no alcohol, would it be ok in your opinion to drink again? I can drink moderately and I don't become belligerent when I'm drunk (anymore).

Also: Is my one year of no alcohol still a success if I replaced alcohol with cannabis or am I supposed to be 100% substance free?

every thing in moderation even moderation!

I think you really need to think about why you stopped drinking, maybe you had a drinking problem and didn't realize it. Talk to a close friend who's non judgemental and ask them their real opinion.
I would have a drink or two for the holiday season but no I would not reaplace the alcohol with cannabis.

No.You shouldn't need it to relax or be happy. And you can drink juice or soda when socializing.

As far as succes that is really up to you. If you are asking probably not though. As far as going back to drinking I would look at one line in your text." I actually had the bottle next to my bed " Also you are only 2/3 through your commitment and now you are already looking towards the end of it. Look at these things seriously before you pick that bottle up

No, I think it isn't a good idea...you could easily fall back into your old ways.

Years ago a news station went to Iceland to do a story on the Bobby Fisher Boris Spasky grandmaster chess tournament.

While they were there, they discovered a very interesting side story. Every Friday the liquor stores were pretty well bought out of booze and all weekend long everyone, including teenagers were **** faced drunk. Then come Monday morning, everyone was sober and back to work.

This led to a public recognition of the sporadic alcoholic. He was not addicted to alcohol as he could go without it for a considerable period. But every time he got drinking, he would get drunk. It did not matter if this was on a weekly basis, or even a monthly basis, the same thing would happen.

You my friend are a sporadic alcoholic and you are in denial. You think you are not an alcoholic because you can go without alcohol for a period of time. You are fooling yourself.

Before you start drinking again, I suggest you attend a few Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and find out how many others are like you, thinking they can control their drinking.
