hey ghost:hangin around people with our disease{meetings, sponsers etc}helps to remind me how powerfull alcholism really is! sitting on my porch one day after 1 year of sobriety watching a great sunrise, out of nowhere the urge to drink hit me like a mack truck.thanks to the grace of the BIG H.P i went to a meeting instead.an elderly gentlemen with over 30 years of sobriety said that same event happened to him 2 weeks prior.thats awful scary but i"ve realized since then ,with the help of a good sponser, that some fears are a good thing. The fear of goin back to the way i was is another one. I ask myself constantly;is dishonesty, disillusionment, resentfulness & hurting everyone around me the real way i want to live my life???NNNNNOOOOTTT!!! Hang in there ghost lifes to short & wonderfull without alcohol. And i ask everybody out there to pray for all the alcoholics who dont have what we got. TAZMAN

look into a prescription drug called Depacote. It has been tied to helping with recovering alcoholics. I just read about it in yahoo news, I think......

As long as you attend AA meetings regularly, you have a pretty good shot. Don't--then forget it. Keep coming back!

Think of the way things were when you were an active Alcoholic.....That's all I have to do. By the Grace of God, I survived, and moved on. Everybody does have temptations- I do believe this is very normal. Go to the Meetings, and get more involved with leadership in them. In addition, look forward to gaining you Career Goals. Looking forward to something like this is very motivating.
GOOD LUCK AND TAKE CARE!

For me personally, I keep active in AA. I actually just got back from a meeting. I go to meetings, work with a sponsor, talk to other alcoholics on a daily basis. That's kept me sober longer than anyway I tried on my own. Good luck, and feel free to write if you have any questions.

for me, its will power(and eating sugar.....candy, cookies, etc) and trying to avoid being with people who drink on an almost regular basis.day to day, my friend, day to day......always keep that in mind.

AA & working the steps is not a one time thing, it requires a lifelong commitment. i go to meetings, sponsor others, do a 10 step as soon as a resentment crops up, and i talk to my sponsor on a regular basis. as long as you keep spiritually fit, you are able to resist temptations. actively helping other alcoholics get sober helps me stay that way. go to meetings, get a sponsor, start working the steps. for those who say AA is a scam & doesn't work : it works for many, that have a sincere desire to get sober; it worked for me as well as countless others. AA helped me get & stay sober working in the bar/restaurant industry.
