It is a three part object.
The body is where the ice and liquid is put. The strainer goes on next, then the cap.
It is used to mix and chill drinks. After mixing you can pour a bit into the cap and give it a taste test. For drinks in a martini glass the cap is removed and the strainer is used to hold bax the ice.
i use it for drinks that have ice in them just to mix them really well and chill them down. Cold cocktails are the best. If its in a rocks glass I remove to strainer and cap and pour the mix and ice into a glass in one shot.
The drink is mixed when the outside gets too cold to hold.
Dont put anything carbonated in the shaker when making drinks because the hole thing wil explode. This can be a fun gag if you dont mind the mess.

its a martini shaker that can be used for other drinks also but it is silver becsause thats what keeps the drinks cold when you shake them with ice.you pour your alcohol in and some ice and shake for at least 1 minute and pour into fancy glasses and there you have it a perfectly cold drink.

Boston Shaker.... if you do it right, you can break the seal from the top and bottom parts, pour your drink out of the side there and the two parts will act as a strainer for ice.
