Tylenol before Alcohol, is it serious?!

Question: Took one tylenol for my headache, then about 1 to 2 hours later I started drinking beer casually and took one shot. Would this seriously affect my liver?

Most of us are aware of the dangers of mixing alcohol with other depressants like tranquilizers, but the labels on almost all over the counter pain relief medications contain warnings concerning their use along with the use of alcohol. Alcohol and asprin can damage the stomach lining. Alcohol and tylenol (acetaminophen) can increase the risk of damage to the liver. Alcohol and Advil (ibuprofen) can cause ulcers and stomach bleeding.
Here's a list of some common drugs and the side effects which can develop if they are used in connection with alcohol:

Demoral, Darvon, Codeine: Impaired central nervous system function. Possibly fatal in certain strengths and combinations.
Bufferin, Aspirin, Excedrin, Anacin, Alka-Seltzer: Possible irritation and bleeding in stomach and intestines.

Valium, Librium, etc.: Decreases alertness, impairs judgment. Possibly fatal combination.

Sominex, Sleep-Ese: Greatly increases drug’s potency, depressing central nervous system.

Dalmane, Seconal, Nembutal: Very possibly fatal. Should never be combined.

Dristan, Coricidin, Nyquil: Drowsiness and loss of alertness.

Insulin, Orinase, Tolinase: Severe and unpredictable reactions. Should never be combined with alcohol.

Tetracycline, Seromycin, Fulvicin: Can cause nausea and vomiting. Renders drug less effective.

High Blood Pressure Medications: Increases potency, reducing blood pressure to dangerously low levels.

Anticoagulants: Increases anti-coagulating potency of drug, leading to potentially life threatening bleeding.

Basically there just aren't many medications out there that mix well with alcohol. If you are a drinker and taking any other medication, play it safe, ask your physician about the possible side-effects.

You're going to die.

If you have to ask...

Ask your doctor, please.

Thank your higher power, dude.

no not really
you should worry about Vicodan before drinking though...

Your fine. Of course it would depend of the frequency and the amount of either / or but since you mentioned you only took one Tylenol and had a few drinks it would be safe to say this would not seriously damage your liver with this occurrence.

Here is a source you can refer to for more information.

YES IT IS SERIOUS! Are you planning to mess up your liver?

**** yea, ur gonna die. u should go to posion control center...omg wow.

Neither one is good on your liver, and the Alcohol makes your metabolism slow down, however doing it once will not kill you.

Number one rule is to avoid mixing pills with alcohol.

it depends on your body. But unless you do it constantly it most likely wont make a difference. just dont make it a habit. You need to worry if you took a serious pain killer and then drank alcohol

Of course it could affect it... however, you took so little Tylenol that it probably won't. I'm not a professional, however, so I may be wrong. In my opinion, the combination of Tylenol and alcohol shouldn't have had any seriously affect on your liver.

probably not, depending on how much tylenol you took. but everybody is different. i wouldn't recommend taking pain killers before drinking. pain killers can already hurt your liver alone, can't do you any good if you drink after it.

yeah probably but at least you wont get a hang over! :-)

Probably not, as long as you are one hundred percent healthy...the problem with livers is, you can't see them, so unless you've had some sort of problem before, you may not know whether you have a healthy liver or not. Tylenol and any other aspirin type product thins the blood...so does alcohol.....see the problem? It is never good to to mix alcohol with ANYTHING

both can cause liver failure together it speeds up the process. but alcohol does more harm then Tylenol

Man, thats harsh. Both alcohol and any drug negatively impact your liver. You probably aren't gonna die like previously stated, but man, never do that again.

On occasion, one Tylenol and some alcohol won't cause you any problem.

If you have a habit of drinking alcohol and taking Tylenol, it is proven that it is likely to cause liver damage.

I not a doctor, but this is my story anyway : I had a buddy at school who took aspirin before drinking. After a while he started to get chest pains - he thought he was getting a heart attack and went to the hospital.

It wasn't a heart attack, but the doctor said this is not recommended. It has to do with the effects of the pills and the effects of the alcohol counteracting each other and the body getting mixed signals.

Anyway, god knows what mixing Tylenol and alcohol does to you, but I wouldn't go experimenting.

No to people react the same. I've been taking Tylenol and drinking after with no side effects. I really don't think you have anything to worry about. Drinking can lead to liver damage, but you would almost have to stay smashed 24-7. I have never heard of Tylenol ever hurting anyone's liver, It's hospital safe, so their add says.

Don't ask people you don't know. Consult your pharmacist or a physician.

no, but if oyur metabolism isn't good, it would give you a killer headache
