Ist the water that makes the coffee good?!
For my money, I buy from different sources on the web and compare them. There is a really good roaster in Acton, MA that is close to my house (well...close enough) and I am sure you can find one too.
If you can get your own coffee roaster (have $5000 to spend on nothing else?) then you can make perfect coffee. Otherwise - buy COFFEE BEANS!!! (never, ever pre-ground) and grind your own coffee to order. That will help your coffee stay fresher longer.
Make sure that you use filtered water (not water from the tap, which can be 'hard' (that means that it has alot of dissolved minerals in it) and bring it to a full boil.
I use raw sugar (I find it tastes better) in my coffee and 2% milk (half-and-half is too rich and it masks the flavor and body of the coffee). One percent milk is too thin and just changes the color of the coffee and doesn't do anything to affect the oils in the coffee.
Good luck!! Remember - the better and fresher the coffee beans, the better the experience.
Answers: The best coffee is a product of the right temperature water (boiling) with good coffee (it better be freshly roasted) and the right conditions.

Cold clear water helps, but it cannot make a bad coffee taste good.
Yes, the water does make your coffee taste better even when its the cheap brand.
Try using good coffee that you grind yourself. Also, use the best bottled water you can so that it won't have a chlorine taste.
yes, clean water goes give a good taste to coffee..
Use cold water always, and make sure to clean your coffee maker every few months (depending on how much you use it) not cleaning it will give your coffee a bitter taste.
