Why? Simply because we are living in a world that every body really have nothing else to do. People go to school, go to work and wanted to have fun. So, they will drink and once they are drunk, they fun things happen.
I really think that drinking once in a while is okay but if you gonna go to parties and drinks alot, they you are digging yourself a grave.

to socialize, to meet people. drinking makes one lighter and real human comes out. i'm talking about moderate drinking

u might next ask why people eat. well moderate eating is healthy otherwise its called gluttony

Cuz it's FUN & a good way to relax!!

Sometimes I think people forget (or don't realize) that any alcohol (beer, wine, whisky, bourbon) ingested in moderation (many doctors suggest one a day) has health benefits.

Also, alcoholic beverages have been around and very widely used for centuries. Ancient cultures brewed their own forms of beer and other drinks, and used them as table drinks. Entire monasteries, in Belgium for instance, are based around the production of beer (look up Trappist monks).

Now, there are really two types of people who drink. The first group drinks for the taste. It may sound strange to some, but there are many people out there (including myself) who enjoy alcoholic beverages purely for the taste. Beer (real stuff, not lite) is good with salty snacks during a football game; wine is excellent with a nice dinner; scotch is wonderful for sipping late at night with a book.

What's the harm in this? In fact, there isn't any (barring any religious objections you might hold). In these small doses, the effect you feel is less than many people feel after drinking a cup of coffee quickly.

The other group of people drink for the actual alcohol--the drunk feeling. Why do they do this? The same reason people do drugs; the same reason people drag race cars late at night; the same reason people do any number of dumb things. It's forbidden, and therefore alluring. Is it really that fun? No, it's not--especially the after-affects.

Regardless, I would suggest two things. First, do your best not to jump to conclusions about those who drink. Not everyone who has a drink in his/her hand at a bar or at home is a drunk, and many would be insulted by that assumption. If you're at a young age and surrounded by the binge-ing youth culture, it may be hard to believe, but moderation IS possible. After the age of 25 or so, moderation is really the norm.

Secondly, if someone is drinking to the point of overconsumption and unhealthiness, talk to them about it. Let them know that they are overdoing it, and that it bothers you. To be honest, many of those who binge at a young age only do so because those around them are doing it. Reminding them that not everyone is a binger might really be a big relief to them.

Well, put it this way: 1) You find a bar. You take your first sip. There are some nice looking girl/guys there. Everyone is just so nice to you... The entire night is a success and you really score.
2) Now, you have some new friends you really like, and I mean REALLY like,... you swoon over them, when you are not together
Then 3.) it becomes a weekly thing, maybe bi-weekly, finally maybe every day. They have to open on Sunday mornings just to get you over your Saturday hangover before church. But unfortunately 3) your life starts to fall apart, you lose jobs. Then a day comes when you have no more money , as well nobody offers to buy you any more drinks, either...
That's when you check into rehab...
If it were up to me alcohol and tobacco would be illegal and weed legal. what a nice world that would be. Elect me president and I'll do it...
Until then, this is what we got.

Wow - so they actions of a few condemn the rest of society? What an absolutely bigoted idea.

If you stopped alcoholic drinks the death rate would actually quadruple!!!!

The almost universally accepted belief is that modest amounts of alcoholic drink — and especially red wine — help to reduce deaths from ischaemic heart disease (coronary heart attacks). Alcohol in moderation can also be shown to increase longevity even after the benefits derived from the effect of alcohol on blood clotting and arterial disease have been removed from the equation. Alcohol, and especially red wine, increase the proportion of HDL (the good cholesterol) to LDL (the bad cholesterol). There is an overall decrease in the amount of pernicious LDL in modest drinkers. Alcohol also alters the clotting mechanism by decreasing platelet stickiness, and has a useful effect on the amount of fibrogen and fibrinolysis in the arteries.

There is a growing body of evidence that resveratrol consumption through red wine has powerful chemoprevention properties, in addition to its apparent heart-health benefits.

Drinking moderate amounts of alcohol especially red wine is associated with a decreased risk of renal cell cancer, prostate cancer, breast cancer and quite a few others.

Red wines – particularly Cabernet, Zinfandel and Merlot – have anti-microbial properties that defend against food-borne pathogens and don’t harm naturally useful bacteria like probiotic bacteria.

It has also been found that patients who have low to moderate blood alcohol levels may be less likely to die after arriving at the hospital with a traumatic brain injury than those with no alcohol in their bloodstream.

A study published in Journal of the American Geriatrics Society finds that moderate alcohol intake (1-2 drinks/day for 3-6 days/week, depending on alcoholic content) may lead to increased quality of life and survival in older women.

A new study suggests that alcohol may protect against rheumatoid arthritis

Heavy drinking is associated with increased risks of cancers of

the oral cavity, larynx, pharynx, esophagus, liver, breast and possibly the colon and rectum,

I suspect you are very young and have not learned to research yet!!

I quote another person from another alchohol question..

It's all abut science.. The real question is why are there so many people out there who are opposed to drinking and afraid to see that it really is good for the soul and a great way to prevent health problems... And it might help a certain person who thinks it's lame to drink get screwed by some little dork.....

I drink because I can and I like it. I don't consider it stupid or irresponsible, and I haven't hurt myself or anyone else. Don't generalize of what you obviously have no knowledge of. Or don't judge everyone based on your limited life experience

First U drink alcohol,experience..and then talk...secondly U meet d people, who are drinking n those who are not drinking, see d differance...then talk....Alcoholic people are more genrous, helping.light..humerous..dependable....U know..HITLAR..STALINE..CHANGHISHKHAN..MA... were not alcoholic..n ..how most they harm d people..If they would be taking little alcohol..they could never harm...world woukd be better..

Because they love to drink.
