Answers:
You'll tend to see trends depending on the type of place you go.

A dive bar is a bar that is very minimal, sometimes a tinge dangerous and dirty. They have a jukebox that hasn't has music updated since the early 90's or earlier. They might have a pool table, they might have some darts. They tend to be a place where you order beer, shots, or drinks with 1 mix.

Restaurant bar's are the next step up, your Applebees or a place that serves food. You tend to be able to get something to eat, and they will probably have their own concoctions on a menu. We aren't talking high quality, but tasty.

After that are specialty themed places. They tend to have full bars, some featuring special drinks, some not. I live in the Phoenix Valley and a great example of this is Dos Gringos, who are themed as a Mexican Shack ... they have mexican beer and some theme margaritas.

You also have clubs, which tend to be associated with either dance or being really upscale. The upscale clubs can sometimes be confused with Martini bars. An excelent example of these are the 'Mega Lounges' in Las Vegas.

Another bar is the 'Flair Bar', where the bartenders are like juggling performers. These are highly entertaining, specialized, and will have lots of rum based drinks where the bartenders can use lots of bottles to show off their skills.

Hope that's a good introduction to some of the different kinds of bars.

I know that in my town, some drinks aren't offered everywhere.
For instance, in one of the nightclubs, they offer almost all types of beer and malts, and a plethora of mixed drinks.
In the local bar, which isn't exactly high class or anything, they don't have any malts but Smirnoff Ice. They do have plenty of beers though, and they make lots of mixed drinks.
Like a restaurant, bars serve different drinks based on their classiness and client base.
