yeast

yeast, the same thing that makes bread rise.

calories. same as with any food.

Because it's full of calories.

It doesnt, Its just a excuse men use when they get a belly because they dont exersise and eat right.see women who drink just as much beer as men and dont get that belly they do

womens weight mainly holds to hips and thighs while mens go to their stomach

it doesn't. the "beer /pot belly" is a myth.
studies have shown it's not the beer as such that causes the beer belly it's the lifestyle that accompanies heavy beer drinking-lack of exercise , consumption of lots of fatty foods such as chips/crisps, peanuts, pizza etc.

Lots of calories, just read the label.

Beer does NOT make your stomache BIG
It is the constant nagging from wives and girlfriends of "you're gonna have a beer this early in the day" or "ohh you're gonna have another beer" that makes the stomache grow bigger.
You want to tell her off but you LOVE her and just swallow your words.

No label says how many carbs it has unless its designed to be low in carbs (thus, making it not a beer, but rather a diet concious corn water).

The beer doesn't give people a big belly like that, it's that people with big bellies have sedentery lifestyles and knock back a twelve pack a night...see cause & effect.

For many years, starting in the middle ages, beer was called "liquid bread". It was a great way to store the energy in grains over the long winter months. It is FULL of carbohydrates, and alcohol has more calories per gram than carbs. "Beer Belly" is just a matter of eating more calories than you use.

Many people's metabolism starts to slow down as they get a little older, for many people this is around age 30-35. If they don't change their eating habits when this occurs, many of them start to put on weight, even if they keep up an active lifestyle. Look at how many beer bellies there are on the softball field!

The short answer is calories, beer just has more of them than people realize.

studies have shown that it is not beer that gives you a "beer belly". Yes there is yeast in beer - most of it dies off when fermentation is complete and the beer is brought down to a certain temperature. That just makes you feel full.

The bottom line reason for the big stomach is that typically when people are drinking beer - they're munching on wings, chips and other deep fried foods. this combined with a sedentary lifestyle renders you such as you described. Really - how many people do you know that munch on celery sticks and tofu while kicking back a couple brewskies and then decide to go for a nice evening jog?

i agree with vh5150!!!! also beer munchies!!!
