What is the best margarita to make "on the cheap"?!

Question:

What is the best margarita to make "on the cheap"?

I've had mixed luck making my own margs at home, expecially when I use somewhat marginal ingredients (like Cuervo Gold and cheap Triple Sec). It seems that by adding better booze, especially Grand Marnier instead of Triple Sec, the taste improves quite a bit. However, I wonder too if the sweet and sour mix that I'm using also plays a big role. I think I'm finding that Jose Cuervo's mix just doesn't do it for me.

So, I pose this question - are there any innexpensive tequila's on the market that are great for margs? How about a triple sec/orange licquor alternative to Grand Marnier? And what are people's favorite add ins (i.e. juice, sweet n sour, etc)?

I still expect to make a top shelf marg from time to time, but getting a nice recipe for a pitcher of margs that won't break the bank would be awesome. Thanks for the help!

Answers:
1800 Tequila and Margaritaville margarita mix. Orange juice is a good sweetener, but I have also added a splash of strawberry daiquiri drink mix.

Instead of Grand Marnier try Gran Gala.

It is impossible to make a "best" margarita on the cheap. DONT DO IT!!

Take the time to make your Marg. like this:

Good tequila
Conitreau(french orange liquor NO TRIPLE SEC)
Fresh lime juice
Simple syrup(1 cup cane sugar to 1 cup water cooked on stove top until sugar is melted.)

This is the only way. Make them individually. Take the time to enjoy life.

I've used this as a variation and enjoyed it greatly:

INGREDIENTS
1 (12 fluid ounce) can frozen limeade concentrate
12 fluid ounces tequila (I've used Sauza & Cuervo Gold, prefer the Sauza)
12 fluid ounces water
12 fluid ounces beer
ice
1 lime, cut into wedges

DIRECTIONS
Pour limeade, tequila, water, and beer into a large pitcher. Stir until well-blended, and limeade has melted. Add plenty of ice, and garnish with lime wedges. Adjust with additional water, if needed.

get some cheap margarita mix with some cheap tequilla, and salt, drink away
