Bartending school?
Now do you think its best to go to school for bartending or just to learn on your own? One of my friends said that school is a waste of time, when you can just learn on your own.

DO NOT DO IT. its a huge waste of time and money. buy a drink book, study that, then apply at smaller family style places to get experience
Bartending school is a rip off. Get a job as a barback, work your butt off, learn all you can and eventually you will be a bartender. Why you would want to be, I dont know....

Find somewhere willing to train you even if you start as a bar back
Bartending school is a joke and a ripoff. I'm a restaurant manager and wouldn't think about hiring somebody out of bartending school.
