I am new in the US and I want to know is Absinthe legal in the US?!

Question: Hi, and welcome to the States!

Absinthe is legal in the United States so long as it does not contain wormwood (which I suppose defeats the purpose of absinthe). However, if you possess the separate ingredients for making absinthe, you are not breaking the law.

Transporting absinthe into the US is, indeed, illegal, so if you have any good friends bringing it in for you from outside the country, make sure they are very careful about it.

I've included a hopefully useful link for further information.

Good luck!

No, it is illegal in the US.

Pretty sure it isn't legal here. I know it was illegal about five years ago so unless the laws have changed then it is still illegal.

It is legal, somewhat.

That is to say, there are only two brands of distilled-with-grand-wormwood absinthe that are currently legal for sale in the US (Lucid and Kubler--both available online here if they aren't in a store near you:http://www.drinkupny.com/category_s/86.h... )

This is a very new development, and up until a few months ago everyone thought that absinthe was absolutely illegal, until some revelations about the laws that govern it. I expect that there will be more brands available in coming months. You have great timing ;-)

No. Absinthe is most certainly NOT legal in the United States.

And considering that consuming it will lead to brain damage, dementia, and finally, mercifully, death, I would encourage you to NOT drink the stuff.

There are products in the US that you can buy that are called Absinthe, but do not contain wormwood. The manufacturers apparently have VERY sick senses of humor.

No.

It used to be illegal but I read recently that it is legal now and available and some experts think it will be the new "in" drink.

unfortunately, the good kind of absinthe (the hallucinating kind) is illegal. but the legal kind will still get you good and liquored up.
