Are there other Cognac's on the market besides Covosier?
? What exactly is cognac and what do the other varieties taste like?
Answers:
tons of them, classier ones include, Remy Martin, Hennessy, cheaper brands include, Martel, Ansac, Raynal. When it comes to Cognac though the more expensive the better, the subbrands such as V.S. and V.S.O.P are all based on the length of aging, one of the most expensive is Louis XIII, which runs about 1750.00 for a 750ml, 240 a shot. It is produced from grapes and must come form the Cognac province in France.
Cognac's are made from grapes, There's Remy Martin. Hennessy. Those are the most popular ones.
Any brandy distilled from wine from grapes grown in the Cognac region of France is entitled to be called a Cognac.
Yes too many to list
co・gnac
NOUN:
A brandy distilled from white wine and produced in the vicinity of Cognac.
bran・dy
NOUN:
pl. bran・dies
An alcoholic liquor distilled from wine or fermented fruit juice.
All cognac is brandy but not all brandy is cognac. Cognac MUST come from the Cognac region of France, whereas brandy can come from anywhere as long as it is distilled from grapes.
Cognac/Armagnac/brandy usually rely on a lettering system to tell their age:
VS (very special) is usually up to 3 years old
VSOP (very special old pale) is usually 3-6 years old
Napoleon is usually 5-15 years old
XO (extra old) is usually 10-50 years old
Here are all the brands of Cognac I can think of at this very moment: Courvoisier, Hennessey, Remy Martin, Rubi, Croizet, Martel, Landy, Gautier, Camus, Pierre Ferrand. However, there are many more out there.
Remy Martin
Meukow
Hennessy
Martel
etc..
There are a lot of different cognacs on the market other than Courvoisier. Other big names would be Remy Martin, Hennesy & Martell.
Cognacs come in several different grades which indicate quality as well as age.
They range from the cheapest VS to the most expensive Louis XIII / Paradis. Personally my favourite for the age and price would be an XO, Hennesy to be exact.
Then there's brandy which is the same thing except it's produced outside of the Cognac region in France. And finally there's Armanac which is like cognac but produced through a distilling method in the Armanac region of France.
