How can I improve my plating presentation?!

Question: How can I improve my plating presentation?
One dish I love to make is crab salad. I made this for my culinary competition last night and felt like my presentation should have been better. I did it the way my instructor suggested but I cant figure out what else I can do to make it look better on the plate...


I think it was nicely done, but adding a little height might have made it more interesting. The prawn stacked up against or on top of the cakes, for example, or the garnish. If those are chives, placing them erect would have been a striking touch.

Regardless, it looks delicious!

I would have surrounded the salad with the other items. Make it look they are encircling the perfect stuff.
