Italian tradition where people can't eat meat for nearly a month or so?!

Question: Italian tradition where people can't eat meat for nearly a month or so?
The name of this tradition and the dates it is practiced in Italy

Answers:

it's Quaresima, which is Italian for Lent. from Ash Wednesday to Easter. So, more than an Italian tradition, it's a Christian tradition.
The word "carnevale" (carnival) derives from Latin "carnem levare", literally meaning "getting rid of meat".
That's in theory, since almost nobody follow that tradition.

I'm Italian, living in Italy

Its called "lent". For 40 days Christians from around the world (not only Italians) sustain from eating meat (and some devout Christians also do not eat dairy) to commemorate the 40 days that Jesus Christ fasted in the desert. Its the beginning of the easter period.

Ramadan, its a movable feast.

your going to become skinnier than a chick, freakin GUIDO!
