Why would a drink be called "dirty"?!

Question: Why would a drink be called "dirty"!?
i've seen a couple of movies where a person asks for a drink and then tells the bartender to make it dirty!. What does "dirty" refer to!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

It means it has olive juice in it!.
A dirty martini is one of several variations on the popular cocktail!. One of the distinguishing features of dirty martinis is the inclusion of olive juice or brine in the drink, giving the martini a slightly cloudy appearance!. Aficionados of the dirty martini maintain that the successful preparation of the cocktail requires both attention to the preparation and the use of only the highest quality of ingredients!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It does mean to have olive juice in it!.

The other poster's mention of the "Dirty Mexican" is just the name of the drink, not the way it is prepared!.

One of my favorite drinks is an extra dirty Bombay Sapphire martini with 3 olives (not the liquor!.!.!.3 actual olives) lol!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

how I make a drink dirty is to add something dark to something clear!.
For example a dirty mexican is tequila with a bit of kahlua!.
Perhaps say use dark rum instead of white for a mostly clear drink!.
I also add kahlua to orange juice and it tastes really good but looks muddy!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

dirty means it has gin!. Dirty vodka martini is called dirty b/c the vodka by itself is very clear in the glass, but when you add the gin it has sort of like a non-filtered look to it, hence 'dirty'Www@FoodAQ@Com

A garnish, usually an olive or onion is added, some of the juice of the garnish gets into the drink giving it a cloudy look!.
At least this is what I understood the meaning to be!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

In the case of olive martinis to make it dirty is when you add a splash of the olive juice to the drink!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Its usually a martini made from vodka or gin!. The "dirty" part is from adding olive juice!. I like my martinis extra dirty!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Mix in the brine from a jar of olives!. It clouds the drink, giving a green translucent "dirtiness"!. Tastes salty!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

dirty means it has olive juice in itWww@FoodAQ@Com
