light rum or dark rum for drunken cherries?!

Question: Light rum or dark rum for drunken cherries?
I am making drunken cherries or "cherry bombs" for a bus trip to vegas this weekend. i have heard that they are usually made with everclear or vodka, but i am a rum girl :)

i was wondering if light rum or dark rum would be better to soak them in.

any advice would be greatly appreciated

The dark rum does seem intriguing but i would try a mini batch of each to find out which works out best for you.
