My beer smelt like eggs?!
Bit worried that it might be poisonous or something? Because I know sulphur smells of eggs. I feel okay just a little tired as you would expect.
I returned the pint and told the bar staff and they put the pint behind the bar and poured me a new one which was okay.
Any explanation/should I be worried? Thanks x
That is one of the defects that might be caused by bacterial contamination. You probably got the first pull off that keg and got all the hydrogen sulfide produced. Once it was vented, the only problem was the bacteria in the beer, not the smell. If you didn't have the runs the next day, you should not worry. And if you did, remember that "This too shall pass".
During the ferment, many beer yeast's, particularly lager strains, give off sulfur compounds. This is not a problem and your beer is not spoiled. As the ferment proceeds, the amount of sulfur smell will decrease, and sulfur smell will not be present in the finished beer.
As others have suggested, it's due to an excess of hydrogen suphide in tne brew - an off-putting but harmless fault. But what puzzles me is that is was in a pint of Fosters - a sterile and tasteless brew that has usually long ago left its fermentation roots.
How you like eggs, beer, oh, I returned the pint and told the bar staff and they put the pint behind the bar and poured me a new one which was okay.
Eggs are eggs, beer is beer, how can like it.
probably because you were drinking Fosters
I think which should arouse your attention. This is not a good thing. As normal, then do not have this taste.
It's just spoiled, not poisoned. No worries.
it may be poisonous
