Just have a standard menu that is kid friendly and if you will have spicy food just mark it as spicy...
keep the drinks coming after midnight also the music, keep it upbeat and everyone will still have fun... you can have the fireworks going after midnight, try getting those big yard long sparklers.. those are fun..!!!
have a room for the kids with games, video games and a TV with cable or movies...
have fun...!!!!
Jell-O shots is a A+ idea
you should have different, kid friendly menus...
and the kids, depending on the age, will probably conk out before early morning
worry more about the kids activities, and try to wear them out early in the evening so they pass out and then let the adults have the real fun towards midnight : )
beer pong.
party poppers
You should have apple cider and party poppers and stuff like that. I always hold a party and we have thing that make big but easy to clean messes. like baloons and stuff like that.
Advise parents and kids to take naps earlier in the day and no to the different menus...would just make kids feel excluded...except for the alchol of course...then you should get them the fancy sparkling grape juice in the fancy looking wine bottles
Make a buffet. Ask people to bring food as well. Have a variety of foods so that the kids can be happy as well.
Put on good rock & roll, or dance music and get the people dancing. Have a countdown clock and when it's close to midnight interrupt the music, and turn on a radio or TV. Then after toasting each other, continue the party music, and get the people moving.
first of all the party would be wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better without the kids! lol i think later on you should have a wild naughty night lmao wen use r drunk and the kids r in bed play naughty dares or beer games there top... keeps the party going all night anyway
Definitely have two different venues. The adults will most likely want a cocktail or two plus sports. The kids will want to do sparklers and / or watch stuff on TV. Make the kids stuff interactive (if you have it) as well, like play station, Wii, etc. so they'll be self-entertained.
Watch the adults and the booze....if they're getting too fueled up, call a cab or have a friend take them home - it's just not worth it and you could be liable as the party "host".
Good Luck
Well for the kids you might want "fun food" like mac & cheese or pizza or chicken fingers. You can offer that to the adults as well but normally adults eat more like fish and meat and salad etc..... Different menus sounds good but kids should be able to get food from the adult menu & vice-versa.
For the kids you can let them watch TV, play video games or board games or with dolls etc....(WARNING: The kids will probably fall asleep so don't get discouraged if they do!)
For the adults, just keep music going and have some champagne (or other kinds of alcohols) just keep the party live and people talking... If not everyone knows each other INTRODUCE PEOPLE! You may also want the TV on when midnight approaches if you want to watch the ball fall in Times Square (I know I like to watch it...). You can also have some games, card games, board games whatever you think they might want to do.....
Good luck!
Hope this helps & have fun!
Kids are easy to keep happy with pizza, pop, ice cream - make them sit at a table to eat (don't want food all over your house) - preferably separate table in kitchen. Setup for them movies or video games in separate room, you'll likely hardly hear from them (depending on age).
Adults, make buffet food and they can eat on their laps around the house. Check out some of the set menus on www.epicurious.com - but there are many ideas for adult food.
At midnight (after kisses and hugs of happy new year) - go out with kids to the backyard to light sparklers. If you are allowed to in your area - set off fireworks in the street (safely, with kids standing back). KIDS LOVE THIS. Adults will also love to join and get out for some fresh air.
Arrnage a place for tired kids to sleep - or set up the T.V. area with sleeping bags and pillows so they can crash as they like.
Adults can continue with shots, whatever.
Call cabs or have guests sleep over !
Hmmmm... You can have one menu if your planning not to make spicey dishes. Or you can have two menus where you can have the same basic dishes (rice, potatoes mac and cheese, chiken, fish, etc.)for both adult and kids. With alternatives for both ( burgers and franks for kids, steak and shrimp for adults) hope this helps
You can make it as simple or as complicated as you want to, it really depends on you. It also depends how big a budget you have.
I think the menu issue depends on whether the dinners you want to make for the parents are kid friendly. For example, if you were serving spaghetti, then obviously the kids could have it too. But if you were serving shrimp cocktails and caviar, the kids might not like it as much.
If you wanted to have a simple meal plan, you could try making things that were fit for both the kids and parents while still seeming a bit fancy.
For appetizers, you could serve: nachos and cheese, potato skins, and celery with cheese dip. (you can look on the internet for easy recipes of other appetizers :) )
For dinner you could serve: chicken, veggie burgers, lasagna, mashed potatoes, etc.
For dessert, you could mix up a nice big chocolate/vanilla cake so it's something everyone could love (as it's a plain cake with no fruit) Or you could have a tray of nanaimo bars and toffee bars.
For activities, you could get some boardgames that everyone would like playing, like Cranium, Madlibs or Taboo, and you could even get games designed for the kids so they have something to do too.
Hope these suggestions help. Good luck :)
Why not ask each family to bring their favorite dish to share? You furnish the drinks. Also, game suggestions are welcome.
