Im planning a babyshower. I was wondering what foods would be least expensive?!

Question:

Im planning a babyshower. I was wondering what foods would be least expensive?

First I was ganna do a cook out just hambergers and hot dogs, Add some chips dip pickles ect....
Then I was thinking of making a whole lot of finger sandwiches....Chips pickles ect....
Now I just dont know waht to do. I still think that the cookout will prob be a little cheeper, as sadwich meets are expensive. What do you all think? Anyone have any better ideas? This babyshower is for 50 people. (I have someone who is willing to grill for all these people so)

Answers:
well i have been to a few and the main thing for all is just lunch meat tray maybe a chz tray and the chips and dip etc... i think burgers and dogs for 50 people will be a bit expensive watch your sales as a lot of stores will have stuff on sale at certain times (like labor day weekend pop and chips and cook out supplies) a simple lunch meat trat does not need to be expensive if you just stick with the main and get the cheaper of the meats .try a chipped ham (chopped ham) a salami (or peperoni slices) a bolgna maybe a baked ham (or a cheaper turkey breast) and that is it and then get a cheese tray which is easy american ,cheddar ,colby ,swiss again watch for sales and buy the least expensive . and get your rolls .cheap additions is pickles and olives .if you go to your cheaper discount stores (save a lot aldis u save i am not sure what name they go by in your area) you can get the pre made burgers for cheap and big packs of hot dogs for real cheap ) and then get condiments .always figure you invite people not all are going to show .another alternative is make a big roaster pan full of rigatoni serve with a garlic roll ( take your rolls and warm them butter them up wioth a garlic spread ) ask the mom to be what she would also like to see on the menu . most people do go to eat and that but i noticed they do more munching on other foods than the main meal type of things there is nothing wrong with doing vegetable trays and fruit trays and maybe a few cucumber sand wiches (finger) simple .and not to messy and not a lot of work preparing and cooking and serving .the main objective is to celebrate with the mom to be on her baby to be and shoot the breeze about baby and of course GIFTS lol enjoy the day and dont worry to much

I've never been to a shower where you ate a whole meal. Usually it is a dessert, nuts, mints and that is it.

actually if you buy bulk sandwich meats they will be cheaper than all the burgers and hot dogs you'd have grilling. personally, you can't go wrong with finger sandwiches.

Well if you want to feed 50 people more than just snacks and cake make it a potluck. that would be the cheapest way for YOU to go. Have everyone bring something and you provide the cake and drinks. that alone for 50 people will be pricy. You could just do pizza or have subway or other sandwhich place cater, I went to a wedding that had subway cater it and I thought it was gonna be cheezy but it was really very nice and the food was great. You are gonna have enough on your plate without making food for 50 people. Good luck

Make a big batch of Manwich, and put it in a crockpot (or 2). Serve chips, deviled eggs, and a pretty cake. Pretty inexpensive.

My sister is having hers at Olde Country BUffett after the child is born and its only going to $6 a person if i remember right

The cook out is the best burgers and hot dogs are always enjoyed by everyone unless your a vegan. Salads are excellent fillers. Macaroni, potato, Cesar, Greek all kinds. Is it possible to ask close relatives to help out and bring a dish? That's what was done for mine and it was great.

Hamburgers or hotdogs can be cheap or you could just go with finger foods.here is a site that may help.

THERE IS NEVER A CHEAP WAY TO THROW A BABY SHOWER.WE ALWAYS GO FOR THE FINGER FOODS BUFFET STYLE.AT LEAST SINCE YOU HAVE SOMEONE THAT IS WILLING TO DO THE GRILLING YOU CAN SPEND TIME W/ THE MOM TO BE AND NOT OUTSIDE BY THE HOT GRILL.OF ALL THE 50,NO VEGETARIANS?BETTER HAVE A SALAD ALSO,JUST IN CASE.

Make what they call shower sandwiches. Egg salad, tuna and salmon. Do a couple loaves of each and cut them into four. Do veggies and dip. Hummus and pita. Tortillas and Salsa. Pickle tray with dills, olives and sweet pickles. It doesn't have to be alot. Showers are great for doing just appetizers. You want to have it all ready so you too can enjoy the shower. But egg, tuna and salmon are economical. Then even instead of cake you can do cupcakes. Line them all up on a board covered with tinfoil, in a rectangle shape. You can then do the right amount and you don't have to mess around with knives and forks. Enjoy yourself.

I think that if you feel you need to make a lunch/dinner out of the event I would choose the cookout. It will give your guest different choices, and keep it simple. Most people just do appetizers - chips & dip, cheeseballs, little smokies, meatballs, etc. Keep it simple and enjoy yourself - you have enough going on already.

Hotdogs and jacket potatoes...

wrap the potatoes and put them all in the oven 1 hour before tha ction. serve it in a big serving plate with cheese and sour cream on the side.
Hot dog sandwiches will serve the kids well and would not be messy to make...

fruit salad, cup cakes or cookies and have juice soda or milk to drink.

Burgers and hot dogs can be cheap, and then even a pasta if there are people who might not like to eat meat. Pasta is so cheap, especially if you can just use a jar sauce and heat up a few trays. Then have hot dogs and burgers, some chips, and maybe a salad on the side. Go to a bulk store like Costco.

Go with the finger sandwiches, tuna, egg, or chicken. Serve with chips, pretzels, cheese cubes, pickles, etc. It would probably be cheaper than the burgers and easier.
