Why is unused coffee called Ground Coffee and used coffee called Coffee Grounds. The Difference and why?!
Coffee in the can is called ground coffee but the spent coffee is referred to as coffee grounds.

Coffee in the can is called ground coffee but the spent coffee is referred to as coffee grounds.
Simple , before it's made the emphasis is on the coffee, thus ground coffee or coffee beans, etc. (if it was banana it would be peeled banana)
After it is made what is left is waste. The fact that the waste is from making coffee is secondary, thus coffee grounds.... emphasis on the bits and pieces. (if it was banana it would be banana peels)
that's pretty neat. I guess someone decided to call the used coffee the coffee grounds. And when they started selling coffee already ground, they called it ground coffee, instead of just the coffee beans.
