So some vegetarians don't like killing?!

Question: So some vegetarians don't like killing?
It's not pleasurable, they don't enjoy it.

Apparently.

So why would they kill (or support killing by eating Produce that kills animals with their diet? Billions of insects die every year from pesticides, and countless other animals like moles, mice, birds, snakes, turtles, and many more die from planting harvesting, and shipping) ?

If what they're saying is TRUE....that don't find it enjoyable to kill, then why do they, in some cases, go out and eat produce that they know will kill animals, why do they do it?

Answers:

Luckily, for me at least, I married a vegetarian woman (and a Dr. of Nutrition) who doesn't preach. She and I both find it rich that a good portion, not all, of vegetarians and vegans get on their soapbox and exude a "holier than thou" attitude about them being so responsible when it comes to the killing of animals for consumption.

My wife made the choice years ago and it had nothing to do with "animal rights" (which we both find hilarious, but that's just me and a modern thinking vegetarian) It was just for her health, nothing more, and I respect and support her decision, as she does mine (omnivorous) and being a Chef and restaurant owner, and it affords a very comfortable lifestyle.

She and I both now that a lot of small animals and insect die from farming, harvesting and pesticides. We just laugh when a vegetarian says that they are not killing as many insects by eating organic. Hell, there are more insect live lost when no form of pesticides are used. In fact, many farmers use more insects (what they call beneficial insects) to attract and kill harmful insects, so both get killed during harvesting, and more of them.

Our point of view is that many vegetarians and vegans might be turning a deaf ear because they can't admit that farming will kill no matter what is being harvested. Cows, pigs, or a simple head of lettuce. And that they believe that the sacrifices of small animals and insects are better served being swept under the rug, that insects and smaller animals are somehow "less of a living breathing entity."

Because just like both veggie and omni extremes, it makes them feel entitled and it justifies their means.

So some vegetarians don't like killing?
No, neither do a lot of meat eaters, which is why they abrogate their killing to abattoirs.

It's not pleasurable, they don't enjoy it.
Correct.

Apparently.
Do I detect a note of sarcasm?

Please check where you put your brackets - parenthesis - in this sentence. I think it should be after the first question mark. I agree that pesticides are designed to kill insects, which is why I tend to either grow my own, or else buy organic produce. It's a conundrum, but we each try our best, don't we?

If what they're saying is TRUE....that don't find it enjoyable to kill, then why do they, in some cases, go out and eat produce that they know will kill animals, why do they do it?
Because we are animals as well and have to eat to survive.

EDIT: Possibly because I hadn't seen friendofchips question.

Um...because we can't live off rocks? And even if we did some beetles hiding under the rocks would no doubt die.

This argument is ridiculous. Yes, farming kills little animals, many of them. Eating farmed meat still kills many more...not only the animals that die for your plate. Unless you live solely off meat you eat grain and veg that ALSO causes the death of these little creatures, and more still to produce the grain to feed the animals that most omnis then eat. I know of very few vegans and veggies who aren't aware of the fact that its impossible to live without killing SOMETHING. We are aware of this. You're not telling us anything we don't know...the fact of the matter is we're still ahead by the numbers as an omni diet kills the farm animals, the little animals living in the grain fields, and many more little animals living in the grain fields killed to feed the farm animals.

I really don't know how many times you plan on making this argument. It doesn't gain respect no matter how many times you pose it. Accidental killing is not like purposeful killing. These animals you speak of are not factory farmed. They live okay lives until they run in front of a plow.

I'm a vegetarian and it is not easy. I don't like killing but no one should starve themselves instead of eating something that may have killed a bug when being harvested. These things are based on how a person thinks and their principles. Hope that answers your question.

I don't like eating meat, so I'm vegetarian. I think its wrong to kill animals for your own food, and selfish really and would rather kill a person than an animal.

A vegan diet kills far fewer animals than an omnivorous one, so it's perfectly consistent with an aversion to killing.

I don't smoke. Sometimes I encounter second hand smoke. So by your logic since I can not avoid all smoke I should go out and smoke a pack of cigarettes a day.

so they don't starve to death

edit: ok, so i didn't see that but not seeing something doesn't make you stupid or anything. in any case they're both strange questions in my opinion

Personally, I dont know anyone who "likes" killing. Some people enjoy the hunt and the kill is the part of the hunt. I think fewer and fewer people are willing to do the hard work involved in actual hunting. And that's a shame. It's the hunters who fund the majority of wildlife conservation programs. I think that when the receipts for hunting licenses stops paying for those programs, we'll see more animals go extinct.

And why do some vegetarians demand meat eaters kill their own meat, but don't raise their own veggies and grains?
