IS 9% of alcohol enough to make you drunk?!

Question: IS 9% of alcohol enough to make you drunk!?
I had a WKD which is 5% and a Bacardi breezer!. 4!.5% and some Carlsberg!.

Enough to make me drunk!?
Im 14!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Firstly, your maths is off: adding something that is 5% alcohol and something that is 4!.5% together doesn't make it 9%, it makes it slightly less than 5%!. Ask your maths teacher for why!.

Secondly, it's not the percentage, but how much you drank, and whether or not your body can take it!. If it's your first drink, that was probably a bit much!. And yes, it could definitely make you drunk!.

Thirdly, I strongly disagree with the other answers who say the adults were irresponsible for letting you drink!. What we need is more adults who are willing to let their children drink small amounts, under supervision, so that they get used to it!. One of the problems with underage drinking in the country at the moment is that children go out on their own and drink alcopops excessively!. If parents were to supervise what their children drank, the kids would get used to small amounts!. And even more importantly, they wouldn't feel like it was a rebellious thing to do to get 'wasted', since drinking was a normal, accepted thing!. Hopefully this attitude would continue into adulthood, so they would be less likely to binge-drink!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

depends, if you have drunk alcohol before now or if this was your first time, eaten something before, and it depends your build e!.g muscle, fat, height etc!. i normally drink Stella Artois [5!.2%] and 1 alone aint enough to get me drunk [normally 8-10], although i am 6!.1ft and have a big build, and drink often, it depends on different circumstances wether you get drunk easily or it takes a few!. wine is good for you!.!.!.so drink up!. if adults/parents say its ok then it doesn't mattter, my parents let me drink, only wine and lager coz i know my limits with them and there are the drinks i enjoy!. if they let you drink they will know your their responibilty, its not like they let you drink absyth or any really strong alcohol, they let you drink alcopops and a bit of medium strength lager, thats fine, it wont do any permanant damge to you, you body is quite able to process that amount of alcohol once a blue moon!. if anyone says you shouldn't be drinking at 14, then their wrong, i was drinking when i was 14, i am 17now , and i know my limits, know the danger, know the drinks i like, the ones which i don't like, the drinks that are to srong for me etc, and i don't have a need to go on a binge, so every once and while have a drink if your parents let you!. and if you enjoy itWww@FoodAQ@Com

It's the total volume of alcohol that you consume over a set period that makes you drunk!.

Now to correct your perception of alcoholic content!. You don't add 5% and 4!.5% and say you've had 9!.5%!. Assuming the volumes of WKD and Bacardi Breezer were the same, you add the percentages and divide by two (because you had two drinks)!. So the maths looks like (5+4!.5)/2 = 4!.75% of the total volume of both drinks added!. If you drank different amounts of each drink, the maths gets a whole lot more complicated!. Ask your maths teacher to explain!.

It's quite reasonable to have one drink once or twice a week under parental supervision at 14 (and it is legal in the UK in private homes), maybe two drinks on your birthday or at Christmas or New Year's!. Any more is unhealthy and could do you long-term damage!. You can get drunk on any strength alcoholic drink, it's the total amount you drink that matters and not the strength!.

To understand in simple terms what percentage alcohol means, each 1% represents 1ml per 100ml of drink!. That is that in 100ml of WKD at 5%, there is 5ml of pur alcohol!.

There are two percentage measures!. Europe uses %ABV, per cent alcohol by volume and that's what I've been referring to!. The US uses %ABW, per cent alcohol by weight!. In %ABW it's grams per 100g of drink, so a 5%ABW drink has 5g pure alcohol in each 100g of drink!. Alcohol is less dense than water, so the same volume of alcohol weighs less than that of water!. Therefore 5% ABW is a little bit stronger than 5% ABV because the volume is bigger!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

from what you have said it is not 9% of alcohol you have drank and some of the older guys on this page should have figured this!. its about 4!.75% (the average of the 2) and 2 bottles of this % would be enough for your judgement to be effected!.!.!. It's dead good init!. just dont go over the top and turn into a chav a drink is fun gettin drunk is not so much!. Have fun not hangover!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The adults are trying to teach you to drink responsibly!.

Drinking responsibly does not include mixing drinks!.
If you have a drink, stick to that type of drink!.

I would say from the pattern that you have described, it is likely that you will become an alcoholic by the time you reach the age of 16!.

Good luck alcoholic!.

it depends what you had eaten, (how much you ate before) and how fast you drank it!. If you drank that then you would know if you were drunk!. Its different for different people!. and WKD and barcadi breezer are like popsicles in a bottle, they wouldnt get you drunk unless your a young child!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Whether there were adults there or not, being 14 you should have shown some sense and chosen not to drink at all!. Maybe if today's society had some sense, there'd be less alcohol related crime on the streets!.

As for the adults who were with you, shame on them!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
