The best way to understand how to order a Classic Martini is to look at the components that make it up:
Gin
Dry Vermouth
Olive Juice
Olives
Pearl Onion
Martini Glass
All of these are optional except for the Gin!.
Gin: The two most popular gins for a Classic Martini are Tangueray (my personal fav) and Bombay Sapphire!. Both are great, it is a matter of personal taste!. Try them side by side sometime and see which you like!. If you do not specify to the bartenders they will serve you a low quality Gin - good for a mixed drink, but horrible in a martini!
Dry Vermouth: This part is a little tricky for some people!. When making a martini you start by pouring about 1/4oz of Dry Vermouth in the glass!. If you order a "Dry Martini" then you would swirl the Dry Vermouth in the glass, coating the sides and then dump it out!. However, if you order an "Extra Dry Martini" then you would simply leave it in and finish making the drink!. Many customers order this backwards!.
Olive Juice: Unless you love the taste of straight Gin, I'd recommend a Dirty Martini!. The salty olive juice compliments the Gin well!. Depending on how big of an olive juice fan you are, you may want to order it "Dirty," "Extra Dirty," or skip it altogether!. Dirty= about 1/2oz Olive Juice, Extra Dirty= about 10z!. Olive Juice!.
Olives: Usually you will get one or two olives without asking!. But it you want to be savvy and you are at an upscale bar or restaurant, ask for Bleu Cheese Stuffed Olives if you'd like!. At Asian places they usually will have Wasabi Stuffed Olives!. I like to always as for extra olives - its like a snack with your drink!
Cocktail Onions: If you really want to sound like you know your stuff, throw the word "Gibson" at the beginning of your order!. A Gibson Martini simply means that a cocktail onion will be added as a garnish, but it will make you appear totally martini savvy!
Martini Glass: Typically, when you order a "Martini," it will be served in a martini glass!. If you elaborate by saying "Straight Up," your bartender may think that you want it in a small glass (lo-ball) without any ice (straight-up)!. I've found that not all bartenders interpret these orders the same, but your best bet is just to say "Martini!."
Therefore, your order should sound something like the following:
1!.) I'd like a Tangueray Martini, Dry, Extra Dirty with Bleu Cheese Stuffed Olives
2!.) I'd like a Gibson Tangueray Martini, Dry and Dirty with Olives!.
3!.) I'd like a Tangueray Martini Dry!.
One more note: Martinis seem to be most enjoyed when they are super super cold!. Since most every bar seems to shake martinis (as opposed to stirring) these days it is not necessary to specify that you would like it "shaken!." However, I always ask them to make it "icy," or "shake the hell out of it," or "shake it well," (depending on what kind of establishment I'm in!. This will ensure that your martini will be chilled to the last delicious drop!
Most Important: Have fun on your birthday and don't worry about the other drinks - I'm sure your friends and the bartenders will be surprising you with plenty of fun shots!Www@FoodAQ@Com

-Scotch on the rocks (If you want to look as old as McCain) lol
-Vodka martini (And dont say "shaken, not stirred")
-Rum and coke (Its a good standby, and you cant be faulted for it)
-Prarie wild fire (Canadian shot!.!.!.Hella strong and hella spicy!)
Personally, I like the prarie wild fire!. And if you want to mess with your friends, order yours then order theirs as a "reverse prarie wild fire" (3/4 tobasco, 1/4 alcohol) lol!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yes, that would be the proper way to order your martini, and nice choice, I have to say, except for the gin!.!.!. I much prefer vodka!.
My personal favorite mixed drink is a Long Beach, which is basically a Long Island with cranberry juice instead of coke!. My best advice is to stick with you know, maybe gin and tonics, or hang by the bar, check out the alcohol, and when the bartender has enough time, ask what they make with something you think you might like!. Example: a bottle of Stoli Blueberry, flavored vodka, usually just mixed with sprite, but see what your options are!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Lemon Drops are really good!. That is all I really drink!. Cosmos are pretty good, or apple martinis!. Ask the bartender what they would recommend!. Usually they will tell suggest their signature drink!.
And don't worry about sounding redundant or anything!.!.!.if you go to a good bar then the bartender will give you a freebie and pick it for you!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
