Question: Question about distillation?

Is the point of distillation to attain the original solution with contents boiled off OR to collect the vapor?

Can it be vary from case to case? Thanks

Answers:

The point is to collect the alcohol vapor with as little of anything else, including water, to condense it to a more pure form of alcohol in liquid form. Alcohol has a lower boiling point than water.
